u Deadline for completion of online application: March 6, 2017

u Deadline for submitting the application documents to Education Office of Chinese Embassy in Canada (three copies for each applicant): March 15, 2017.

u Availability of the Award Letter to those preselected candidates after the pre-selection committee meeting on April 7, 2017. With this letter, candidates shall continue contacting the 3 targeted Chinese universities in their application file to request a letter of admission. The letter of admission must be sent to the Education Office of Chinese Embassy in Canada by email or fax by April 21, 2017.

u Physical Examination: Only preselected candidates that have applied for more than 6 months scholarship will be required to complete a physical examination and blood test, and the original copies should be kept by the candidate. It should be done no earlier than the date receiving the Award Letter.

u The final selection of scholarship recipients is made by the China Scholarship Council and is communicated to successful candidates by late July or early August 2017. Successful candidates will receive admission notices from the Chinese university along with other materials on visa and travel to China at the same time.

II. Coverage of Chinese Government Scholarship

1. A fee waiver of registration, tuition, laboratory experiments, internship, and basic textbooks. Cost of experiments or internships beyond the program curricular is at student's own expense. Cost of books or learning materials other than required basic textbooks is at student's own expense.

2. Free on-campus dormitory accommodation.

3. A living allowance at the following rates (per month)

Undergraduate students: CNY 2,500;

Master's students & general scholars: CNY 3,000;

Doctoral students & senior scholars: CNY 3,500.

4. Outpatient medical service and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China.

III. Application Procedures

This is a three-step process.

STEP ONE: Online Application

Complete the online application form at www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org according to the enclosed “Instructions of the CSC Online Application System for International Students”. Please be advised that applicants start to contact the 3 targeted Chinese universities in the application file for pre-admission.

STEP TWO: Application Form and SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

Applicants are required to submit paper-based application package that must include three (3) copies of each of the following documents:

downloaded, printed online application form (Please do stick your recent photo to each first page of your application form.) Two letters of recommendation (three copies for each). Notarized photo copy of transcripts of the most advanced studies. Photo copy of the diploma (notarized by Notary Public) for the highest diploma obtained. A detailed study/research plan. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Please be advised that physical examination and blood test should be done no earlier than the date receiving the Award Letter). If applicable: proof of language proficiency (HSK results). If applicable: samples of artwork for applicants in Fine Arts and Music. This applies to those who apply for arts and music only.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure the package is submitted by the deadline. Incomplete files will not be accepted.

STEP THREE:

To enhance your opportunity to be admitted to your targeted universities, once your application package is received, examined and approved primarily, an Award Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship provided by the Embassy of the P. R. China in Canada will be sent to you no later than April 7, 2017. And with the Award Letter, you shall continue contacting the three targeted Chinese universities filled in your online application form for admission. Once you get the admission(s), please choose one from your most favorite universities and send it to us through email (PDF form) or fax in saving time.

Enclosure I:

Instructions of the CSC Online Application System for International students

Step 1: Visit http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org and click "Application Online for International Students".

Step 2: Read "Tips for online application" carefully before clicking "NEXT" to the registration page.

Step 3: After registration, log in with your user name and password. Choose Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A)as your scholarship type unless you are applying for other Cooperation Program Scholarship.

Step 4: Fill in the correct Agency Number. An Agency Number represents a specific application receiving agency. It is listed in the first blank under the "PERSONAL DATA". Please make sure you fill it in correctly, otherwise you will not be able to continue your online application or your application will not be accepted.

Your Agency Number is 1241.

Step 5: Fill in the Online Application Form truly, correctly and completely following the steps listed on the left of the page.

Applicants are required to select a discipline before choosing their majors. Please refer to the Disciplines Index, which could be downloaded from Help, if you have any doubt about the disciplines and majors.

Step 6: Click Preview and check your Application Form carefully before submitting it. Click Confirmation of Submit to submit your Application Form.

Step 7: Download the completed Application Form by clicking Download Application and print two hard copies.

Step 8: Prepare other supporting documents as required and send the full package of application documents (in duplicate) to the dispatching authorities.

Step 9: You can make changes to your application by clicking Retrieve Application on the left of the page. But make sure to submit it again by clicking Confirmation of Submit after finishing all the changes. Otherwise, the retrieved application will become invalid and your new application will not be received either.

l Please use Internet Explorer (6.0 or 7.0). Menu selection functions may not work in other browsers.

l Only Chinese and English are accepted for the online application.



Enclosure II:


2017/2018 Chinese Government Scholarship Application

The 2017/2018 Chinese Government Scholarship is now open for application. Online application and the corresponding application documents should be submitted to application receiving agency no later than March 15, 2017. For more information, please refer to www.csc.edu.cn/laihua.

Eligibility: To be eligible, applicants must

--be a citizen of Canada in good health.

--be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs.

--be a bachelor's degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master's programs.

--be a master's degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs.

--be under the age of 45 and have completed at least two years of undergraduate study when applying for general scholar programs.

--be a master's degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs.

Application Documents (in duplicate)

a) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English).

b) Notarized highest diploma (photocopy): Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

c) Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

d) A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English. (A minimum of 200 words for undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for postgraduates.)

e) Recommendation letters: Applicants for graduate programs or senior scholar programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.

f) Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works. Applicants for fine arts programs must submit a CD of their own works which include two sketches, two color paintings and two other works.

g) Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.

h) Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org).The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

i) Applicants with Admission Letter from designated universities should enclose the letter in the application package.

j) Applicants with valid HSK Certificate should enclose it in the application package.

NOTE: The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate). No application documents will be returned.
